Sudanese militia troops withdrawing from Jebel Marra in Central Darfur raped five women, shot two men, and stole large numbers of livestock in the area of Nierteti on Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Tuesday, members of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) raped five women who fled air raids on villages east of Nierteti, an activist informed Radio Dabanga.

She said that about a hundred villagers from four villages east of Nierteti, who fled from aerial and artillery attacks, were intercepted by a group of militiamen riding horses, camels, and motorcycles half a kilometre from the town.

“The militiamen robbed them of everything they had loaded on their donkeys. They then seized five women, among them minors and a disabled woman, and raped them,” the activist reported. “The victims arrived at Nierteti in a very bad condition.”

Another source reported that the residents of Nierteti and the nearby camps for the displaced persons were terrorised by RSF troops randomly firing around them.

“Abdallah Adam Younis was hit by bullets on Tuesday evening,” he said, and added that the town market is still closed, and the people are staying at home, as militia troops are still roaming the streets.

On Wednesday afternoon, a group of five militiamen attacked Nierteti’s El Omda district. “They shot Mustafa Omar Yousef (23) in his thigh,” a friend of him told this station. “They then robbed him of 15 goats and fled.”
