Economic activity has slowed down in Shabunda center, south-west of Bukavu, South Kivu due to ongoing conflict in the area. In the north-east of the city, stores, shops and small markets are closed, and the neighborhood satnds emptied of all of its inhabitants. The security situation has been tense since Wednesday, August 27. The commander of the 1010th Regiment of the Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC) claims that Raïa Mutomboki militiamen of the regional Sisawa group launched a counterattack against the FARDC after an attack of their positions Thursday in Mongolian, 7 km to the north of Shabunda center.
For now, the outcome of these clashes is not yet known.
According to the director of planning, gunshots continue to be heard from the opposite bank of the river Ulindi.
