At least one person was confirmed dead and three others allegedly missing when youths said to be from Obodo community invaded and attacked youths from neighbouring Omadino community both in Warri Souith council area of Delta over ownership of land.
The fracas which started at about 8;30am on Wednesda with heavy shooting led to the death of one Festus Oyeyemi while Mathew Ugbameta and two others are said to be missing.
Military men have however taken over both community highways to contain further hostilities and maintain the peace.
Trouble was said to have started when youths of Obodo allegedly mounted a new signpost close to the Eagle Height University located at Omadino land with the inscription “Welcome to Obodo”. Youths of Omadino then uprooted the signpost and were attacked by Obodo youths who allegedly laid ambush awaiting anybody who dared to remove it.
Speaking to Daily Independent on the matter now before the Police “A” Division in Warri, Mr. Amejuma Aguarabueye, the Assistant Secretary to the Omadino community said even a poultry located on Omadino land was totally destroyed while two welding machines being used by a DESOPADEC contractor working on a site at Omadino was taken away by their attackers.
The contractor has also reported the matter to the police while the corpse of the dead boy has been deposited at the Warri Central Hospital morgue and the police have commenced investigation according to top security sources.
There has been peace in both neighbouring Itsekiri communities until only recently when the Eagle Height University of the Word of Life Bible Church was sited with an elaborate ground breaking ceremony by President Goodluck Jonathan at Omadino.
Meanwhile, youths of Obodo town are said to be on the run for fear of reprisal attack and arrest following the presence of plain clothes security personnel in both communities.
