No fewer than 14 persons have been killed and 230 cattle stolen in Yelwa town and Shendam in Jos East Local Government Area of Plateau State by unknown gunmen.
An eyewitness from the area, Musa Gambo, said that the gunmen “struck at Yelwa village in the early hours of yesterday in the morning and started shooting killing about twelve persons and with over 200 cattle were stolen by the rampaging gunmen.”
In another development, gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen also attacked Babayo-Zarazong village in Jos East Local Government Area of Plateau state killing two persons and burnt down houses. It was gathered that the gunmen in Jos East razed about 15 houses.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abu Emmanuel, confirmed that “there was an attack in Shendam and persons were killed, but I don’t have the exact figures of those killed in the attack.”
Emmanuel added that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Nasiru Disu Oki, has deployed enough security personnel to the attacked villages to control the security situation in both locations.
According to the PPRO, “no arrest has been made and the Police are doing every thing possible to bring the culprit to book.”
