Interim Jubba Administration (IJA) forces on Wednesday (July 30th) killed at least ten al-Shabaab members outside Kismayo and seized several of the militant group’s bases in the area, Radio Bar-Kulan reported.
IJA soldiers launched an offensive on al-Shabaab positions in Abdidhore village, 48 kilometres west of Kismayo, and were able to take control of several nearby positions, said head of IJA security forces Aden Mohamud Qojar.
IJA official Iftin Hassan Basto said the IJA forces killed ten militants in Abdidhore.
Qojar declined to comment on the number of casualties but said his forces were now moving towards al-Shabaab positions in Kamjaroon.
Also on Wednesday, a delegation led by Acting Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission for Somalia Lydia Wanyoto arrived in Kismayo.
Wanyoto and her delegation are expected to hold talks on relations between the IJA and the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), as well as on reconciliation activities between communities across the Jubba regions.
