Deadly battle flared up on last night between Somali National army forces and Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab militants in Mogadishu, reports said.
The fatal skirmishes erupted after fighters from Al Shabaab launched an ambush attack against Somali Government bases located SOS, Suuqa Xoolaha and ex-control junction of Bal’ad villages in Mogadishu.
The exact number of casualties on both warring side are yet to be unclear. After the fighting, Somali National army forces arrested dozens on suspicion of Al Shabaab members.
Neither Government officials nor Al Shabaab commented on the battle so far.
Elsewhere, unidentified gunmen armed with pistols have on overnight killed two Somali Federal Government soldiers in Mogadishu’s Hodan district.
An eyewitness told Shabelle Media that the soldiers were killed by young men armed with pistols in neighborhoods of Hodan district. The killers run away from the crime scene uncaught.
Local authority did not comment on the murder of the two soldiers.
Al Shabaab vowed to double their attacks against Somali officials and soldiers in Mogadishu during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
