Two residents of Kass, South Darfur, were shot dead, and one was injured by gunmen on Sunday.
Speaking to Radio Dabanga, a resident of El Salam district in Kass said that three gunmen on motorcycles stopped Suleiman El Faki when he was returning home from the district mosque after evening prayers.
“They told El Faki to mount one of their bicycles, but he refused. During the ensuing discussion, El Faki’s son, Ishag Suleiman came to help his father. The gunmen opened fire at the son, and he died on the spot. Then El Faki’s daughter came out of the house. She was injured when they shot her too. Their neighbour, El Rashid Omar, who had heard the shooting, came to their rescue. He was hit by bullets in his head, and was transferred to Kass hospital, where he died.”
On Tuesday, relatives of the deceased together with other angry citizens staged a demonstration in front of the police station of Kass, in protest against the deteriorating security situation in Kass. “The police fired into the air, which frightened the peaceful demonstrators,” the source added.
He noted that the police managed to arrest two of the perpetrators.
