Eight passengers were wounded when a gunmen attacked a mini-bus in Krong Pinang district of Yala province on Tuesday morning, police said.
The mini-bus was taking 10 passengers from Kuelong settlement in Bannang Sata district to Muang district when the attack occurred about 6.45am on Highway 410 near Ban Brangae in tambon Purong of Krong Pinang district.
Winai Preechachote, the mini-bus driver, told police that as he neared Ban Brangae two men standing on the roadside pulled out handguns and opened fire at the vehicle.
He quickly sped away and then learned that many of the passengers were injured. He took them to Yala Hospital.
Eight passengers, five women and three men, were injured, two seriously. The women are Jamnien Niemprom, Arob Chuthong, Kin-in Songsri-in, Nunam Thawornwong and Urai Thammachote. The three injured men are Mati Sanyakij, Prajak Sanyakij and Itthipol Makkliang.
