The Commissioner of Katila locality in South Darfur was killed in an ambush on Sunday.
Speaking to Radio Dabanga, a witness reported that armed men in six vehicles opened fire at the vehicle of Abdallah Yasin, the Commissioner of Katila locality, in the area of Tuwal Um Balal on Sunday afternoon. Yasin was killed immediately, and one of his bodyguards sustained injuries.
“The Commissioner was on his way from South Darfur’s capital of Nyala to Katila town, with the salaries of the locality’s staff,” the witness added.
The Governor of South Darfur state, Maj. Gen. Adam Mahmoud Jarelnabi commented on the attack by saying that the identity of “those bandits” has not been identified so far.
The Gimir tribe, to which the Commissioner belonged, demanded from the South Darfur State authorities to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice. Abakar El Tom, the spokesman for the Gimir, told Radio Dabanga that a Gimir delegation met with the Governor on Monday, and agreed to form a committee to investigate the attack.
