A bomb along the road between Bulo Burde town and the airport detonated Wednesday morning (June 11th), injuring at least six Somali government and African Union soldiers, Somalia’s Keyd Media reported.
Three of the injured soldiers belong to the Djiboutian contingent of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and were airlifted to an AMISOM hospital in Mogadishu for treatment, according to Bulo Burde District Commissioner Ahmed Ali Wehliye.
The improvised explosive device was buried in the road and remotely detonated, he said, targeting the soldiers’ convoy.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, which bears similarities to a number of attacks carried out by al-Shabaab against Somali and AMISOM troops.
Wehliye said local security institutions have launched an investigation into the incident.
