A grenade explosion has injured seven people in Garissa town Northern Kenya, Garissa County police commander Charles Kinyua told reporters on Thursday.”There was a powerful explosion and seven civilians who were chatting outside their house in Ngamia Road area in Garissa Town were hurt after lone assailant hurled a hand grenade at them,” Kinyua was quoted saying by the standard newspaper.

Kinyua said security intelligent personnel has launched a probe into the incident adding that details of what transpired and who could be the possible culprits would be established.

A prominent Muslim leader Sheikh Abdirashid, was shot dead by unidentified assailants a week ago just some kilometers from where Wednesday’s incident occurred.

Incidents of explosives been thrown at eateries and other busy area has become a common phenomena in North-eastern Kenya, after Kenya sent its military to Somalia to fight terrorist group, Al-Shabaab.
